ArtsCentral a Resounding Success
11/13/2007
From October 12 to 13, ArtsCentral drew hordes of visitors to see art in everything in Central Square. During ArtsCentral’s two-day celebration of arts and commerce, Central Square came alive with art. More than 40 square businesses—ranging from the YMCA to the MIT Museum—hosted artists who actively created work and exhibited pieces. Stages, on Temple Street, in Cort Putnam Furniture and on Main Street hosted a multitude of live performers showcasing their many art styles. Both the Nora and underground railway theatre added to the day with performances, the Underground Railway Theatre was a part of the re-dedicatoin of the David Fichter mural "The Potluck" behind Harvest Co-Op. The Nora theare performed Silver Spoon by Amy Merrill on the Main Street stage, and it was a highlight of the day! On Temple Street, Sidewalk Sam’s Artful Endeavors encouraged children and their families participate in the creative energy by creating drawings. Young or old, novice or experienced, visitors willing grabbed colorful chalk and created some Central Square artwork of their own. Ultimately, ArtsCentral drew hordes of visitors to Central Square’s restaurants and stores that they otherwise might not have visited. Many business owners enjoyed the increase in visitors. With festival admission buttons, visitors received discounts in more than 15 square businesses, some valid for up to two weeks after the festival. ArtsCentral gives us a fabulous opportunity to support our local businesses, host multitudes of artists, and take pride in our distinctive neighborhood. Next year, join us again so we can celebrate ArtsCentral, and see art in every corner of our square! The Cambridge Chronicle covers ArtsCentral:
